My textile art is infused with akaleidoscope of diverse influences and sources such as: nature, the fashionworld, design arts, cultural arts, travel, vintage clothing and African arts. Iam driven by inspiration and the passion to create innovative art. I amalso fascinated with color, shape and texture. I use color to capture the emotionalpossibilities; shape/curvilinear lines as a method to address the twist, turnsand mobility of life; and textureto express diversity and depth. Whether my artwork is telling astory or depicting an abstract emotion, it conveys the qualities of joy, optimism, and movement. These are thefactors that collectively create the inspirational and aspirational aestheticwithin my fiber art quilts.
I believe that an artist is called to create and to inspireothers. This is a unique gift and perspective. In this role, I am constantlypushing to achieve original concepts. An example of that exploration is thedevelopment of the “fibercation” techniques which are featured in thisexhibition. In addition, my art has evolved to embrace a three-dimensionalsculptural perspective seen in the totems. They tell the story of my personaljourney. My art includes found objects, folded draped details and embellishmentof beads, lace, braid, cording and leather—all of which assist in expressingthe story of my fiber art. The journey of life and its path continues to be asource of inspiration. In addition, my faith is a strong influence on myart. It is my hope that as I continue to grow and communicate what informs meas an artist, that my artwork inspires people to see the endless possibilitiesof hope, joy and love.
